The Blueprint for Creating Your (Recovery) Reality in 7 Steps

Being my fourth visit to the county detention center, the routine was familiar.

The day after my 42nd birthday.

This couldn't be my life. How did I end up here when only three years prior, I was an executive and college professor?

But why does this feel so natural? So comfortable?

Looking around at my fellow detainees, I wondered why I so closely identified with them.


That question went unanswered for the next year until I completed drug treatment court. When I came face-to-face with relapse. (The whole story can be heard on my podcast).

I discovered the power of my beliefs.

In my mind, I believed I deserved jail time. I deserved to struggle. I believed that I belonged nowhere.

I had created this reality through the power of my thoughts.

If I had created this reality, then I could create a new one.

And so I began. Thought by thought. Second by second. I harnessed the ultimate ability to create my reality through the state of my mind.

This, my friends, is the most important work you'll ever do in recovery.

Until you shift your state of being, nothing else you try in recovery will have a long-term impact.

Read that again.

And again.

It is time to take authority. It is time to step out of the relapse cycle and embrace the life of your dreams. And that begins right now with a single vision and single emotion.

Here are your seven guidelines for creating your new (recovery) reality:

1-The Nature of Change

Change is not an event but a process requiring consistent dedication and practice.

Many people approach change expecting immediate results, but true transformation occurs through small, daily commitments sustained over time.

When we understand that rewiring our neural pathways takes repetition and patience, we can release the pressure of immediate transformation and settle into the journey of becoming.

The process isn't linear - some days will feel like breakthroughs, while others might seem like setbacks. Both are essential parts of the transformational journey.

So many of my clients get impatient during early recovery because they aren't seeing the results they expect. I see so many men giving up way too soon. Think of crystal meth recovery as turning the titanic. If you make a 1% improvement each day, you are still making improvements. KEEP PUSHNG.

2-Emotional Conditioning

The body must be conditioned emotionally into the future we desire.

This means actively generating and maintaining the emotional state we would experience if our desired reality were already present.

This isn't about positive thinking or denying current circumstances - it's about training our nervous system to recognize and expect a new normal.

Through consistent practice, we can shift our baseline emotional state from survival-based reactions to creation-oriented responses.

"Once I stop using meth, life will be good. I'll be happy and content." This statement will set you up for disappointment every time. True recovery happens when you find happiness and contentment first, whether or not you are relapsing. Achieving the internal state of being allows the external to fall into place.

3-The Power of Community

Individual transformation is amplified within a supportive community.

When we gather with others who are also committed to growth and change, we create a field of resonance that makes individual change more accessible.

This isn't about dependency on others but rather about leveraging the natural amplification that occurs when conscious individuals gather with shared intention.

The collective field can help sustain us through challenging periods of transformation and provide mirrors for our own growth.

Be very honest with yourself. How do you feel after spending time with the people or groups in your life? Do you feel empowered or fearful? Do you feel a surge of energy or stagnant shame? The energy you subject yourself to is vitally important to the recovery process.

4-Understanding Stress Response

Stress isn't just a mental state - it's a full-body experience that directly impacts our ability to create and manifest.

When we're in a stress response, our biology shifts to prioritize survival over creation.

This means that managing our stress response isn't just about feeling better - it's about creating the biological conditions necessary for manifestation.

Learning to recognize and shift out of stress becomes a fundamental skill in the manifestation process.

Are you carrying an undercurrent of stress? You can test this by looking at how you react while driving. Are you tense? Are you yelling at the other drivers? This may sound silly, but low-grade stress will bubble up while behind the wheel and show you what's happening below the surface. Stress will hold your recovery evolution back.

5-Heart-Brain Coherence

Creating coherence between the heart and brain isn't just a metaphorical concept - it's a measurable state with distinct biological markers.

When we achieve this coherence, we access a different quality of consciousness that enhances our manifestation abilities.

This state can be developed through specific practices and, with time, can become our natural way of being.

The heart's electromagnetic field plays a crucial role in this process, influencing both our individual state and our impact on the collective field.

It takes only minutes to align heart and brain. The impact on your emotional balance is eternal. Breathe in slowly for 5 seconds, and breathe out slowly for 5 seconds while holding a person or experience in your mind that brings a strong sense of appreciation. Do this three times, and the heart feels safe, then tells the brain, which tells the body. You are instantly restored to the state of manifesting recovery.

6-The Reality of Manifestation

Manifestation operates through precise biological and quantum mechanisms.

It's not about wishful thinking or forcing outcomes - it's about creating the internal conditions that allow our desired reality to emerge naturally.

This involves understanding that our external reality is a reflection of our internal state, and that sustainable change happens from the inside out.

When we grasp this principle, we stop trying to manipulate external circumstances and focus instead on becoming the person who naturally experiences our desired reality.

7-The Role of Belief Systems

Our current reality is shaped by our existing beliefs, many of which operate below our conscious awareness.

Transformation requires becoming aware of these beliefs and actively choosing which ones to keep, modify, or release.

This isn't a one-time decision but an ongoing process of consciousness evolution. As we update our beliefs, we literally change the filters through which we perceive and interact with reality.

Integration Practice

Understanding these principles intellectually isn't enough - they must be integrated into our daily experience through consistent practice.

This means creating specific times each day for manifestation work while also maintaining awareness of these principles throughout our daily activities.

The goal is to eventually embody these understandings so completely that they become our natural way of being in the world.

    • Spend 10 minutes daily
    • Imagine your desired future in detail
    • Generate associated emotions

    • List your current beliefs about what's possible
    • Question their origins
    • Identify beliefs ready for updating
    • Create new empowering beliefs
    • Practice embodying new beliefs daily
  5. Community Connection
    • Find or create a supportive group
    • Share intentions and progress
    • Practice maintaining elevated states together
    • Document collective experiences and synchronicities
